The Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) would
like to welcome you to the Byron Overlook Welcome Center Homepage.
It is our intention to use this Web site to provide you with the latest
information available on this project.

The Maryland State Highway Administration has received funding
for the planning and conceptual design phase to upgrade the existing Scenic
Overlook along northbound I-270 in Frederick County, Maryland to provide
an Environmentally friendly Welcome Center that would have low or no impact
upon the environment. A design competition is being held to stimulate
a variety of innovative design concepts for a facility that is intended
to be independent from the need to rely on traditional energy, water supply
and wastewater treatment technologies. It is the intent that this facility,
when constructed, will be self-contained and self-sustaining.
