This portion of the document will acquaint you with six project examples
that, together, reveal a broad range of considerations related to projects
involving Section 4(f). Above all, these examples are intended to show
you how Section 4(f) concepts apply to the real world of transportation
planning.
Three of them are hypothetical. Their purpose is to walk you through
the general decision making process established under Section 4(f) for
parklands, refuges, and cultural resources. The other three are actual
Maryland projects. Their purpose is to offer insight into the types
of Section 4(f) challenges typically faced by the state transportation
agency, as well as the types of solutions that may be used to overcome
these challenges.
