Public involvement is a critical element when providing people with disabilities the accommodations, locations and infrastructure design that are most meaningful. It also helps SHA determine how to prioritize projects, to determine if anything has been overlooked or evaluate if field-level efforts meet public needs. Public involvement takes many forms. It is required as part of the self-evaluation and transition plan. Ongoing dialogue with people with disabilities, both individually and in groups, works to help SHA accommodate people with disabilities at various meetings.
Public Meetings
In 2007, SHA held public meetings in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George ’s counties. These meetings provided a forum for the public to comment on the results of the field inventory portion of the Self Evaluation. This information will be used to prioritize when the locations and elements the public identified as most important will be corrected. It will also be considered during the completion of the Transition Plan.
